Why certifications matter to us

NEUMAYER is an energy-intensive company. This creates responsibility toward the environment, future generations, customers, employees, and the region. At the same time, energy is a decisive factor for competitiveness, security of supply, and long-term industrial strength.

That’s why we have been working for years to make our processes more efficient and climate-friendly. We invest in renewable energy and green electricity, in more efficient systems, in heat recovery, and in processes such as heat treatment using forging heat. Our climate protection doesn’t just exist on paper, but above all through concrete improvements in operations.

Many of our customers pursue their own climate goals and face growing requirements for sustainability, reporting obligations, and supply chain transparency. For them, it’s important to know how their partner companies handle energy, resources, and emissions.

Certifications play an important role in this. They create transparency, provide guidance, and demonstrate that sustainability is part of our business processes. At NEUMAYER, this particularly applies to two standards: ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 50001 for energy management. We have successfully passed both audits again.

Certifications help to systematically review processes, identify weaknesses, and implement improvements in a targeted manner. An independent body evaluates whether the defined requirements are met. This creates objective evidence—internally for our own development and externally toward customers, partners, authorities, and other stakeholders.

In the ESG context, such evidence is of great importance. The ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards primarily contribute to the “Environment” area. They demonstrate that environmental responsibility is pursued in a structured way: with clear responsibilities, documented processes, verifiable metrics, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems. For NEUMAYER, this means: environmental management is not a single project, but an integral part of operational processes. This includes the careful use of resources, the reduction of emissions, waste prevention, compliance with legal requirements, and regular review of our own environmental performance. A functioning environmental management system increases legal certainty, makes progress visible, and strengthens credibility toward customers and partner companies that increasingly rely on reliable sustainability evidence in their supply chains.

ISO 50001 focuses on energy management. It helps companies analyze energy use, make energy flows visible, and continuously improve energy-related performance. This is particularly relevant for energy-intensive industrial operations like NEUMAYER. Forging processes require high temperatures, high-performance systems, and a reliable energy supply. It’s all the more important to know exactly where energy is used, which systems are particularly relevant, and where savings potential exists. The legal framework also plays a role. The Energy Efficiency Act requires companies with high annual total final energy consumption to implement an energy or environmental management system. Companies with annual consumption exceeding 2.5 GWh must also evaluate economically viable energy efficiency measures and develop implementation plans.

The successful audits according to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 confirm our path. They make sustainability more binding and help translate goals into structures, responsibilities, and concrete measures. This approach fits our identity as a family business: we think long-term, invest in future viability, and want to show that industrial production and climate protection go hand in hand.
