From the Kinzigtal to Toronto and Back

Our apprentice Kim Karsten took part in a multi-week exchange program in Canada.

For three weeks, Kim attended the Global Summer School at Humber Polytechnic in Toronto – an experience that enriched her both professionally and personally. The program included a one-week bootcamp on Creative Thinking and a three-week course in Social Media Marketing. Together with students from all over the world, Kim developed a content plan for a Toronto-based company and gained fascinating insights from lecturers who not only shared professional expertise but also spoke about the culture and history of Ontario.

“I learned so much – both professionally and personally. What I found most exciting was working in an international team and exchanging ideas about different approaches,” says Kim Karsten.

Kim’s time in Canada left a lasting impression. She found that people in Canada seemed more open and helpful – a difference she clearly noticed compared to life in rural Kinzigtal. In terms of sustainability, she observed that everyday life in North America still has room for improvement, particularly when it comes to plastic packaging.
But above all, she learned that courage, patience, and openness are key:

“At first, you feel like you’re on your own – but once you take the first step, doors open and valuable connections start to form.”

Discovering Toronto

Beyond her studies, there was plenty of time to explore Toronto. From the famous Niagara Falls to a boat tour with a skyline view, a visit to Canada’s Wonderland amusement park, or watching a Toronto Blue Jays baseball game – Kim especially enjoyed the mix of big-city flair and diverse activities that made her stay unforgettable.
Toronto itself, she says, is a cosmopolitan and multicultural city. Interestingly, many scenes from well-known movies and TV shows set in New York were actually filmed there – giving the city a unique atmosphere.

We’re delighted that Kim seized this special opportunity.

“We want to give our employees the chance to broaden their horizons. International experiences like Kim Karsten’s not only expand perspectives but also bring fresh ideas into the company and support personal growth – a win for everyone,” explains Managing Director Dirk A. Neumayer.

Kim wholeheartedly agrees: “I’m very grateful that NEUMAYER supported me during my time abroad. The experiences I had in Toronto will stay with me for a long time.”
